In a surprising turn of events, the city of Dresden is set to experience faster growth than previously projected. According to the latest forecast, the population of Dresden is expected to reach approximately 603,400 by the middle of 2040, surpassing the earlier estimate from 2022.
Over the course of the next 17 years, the city is predicted to grow by around 33,400 residents, representing a significant increase of 5.9%. This rise in population can be attributed to several factors.
Factors Driving the Growth
As of the end of 2023, the Dresden registry recorded 572,240 residents with their primary residence in the capital city. This figure indicates a 0.5% increase of 3,067 individuals compared to the previous year. With the gradual influx of an average of 2,900 people each year, the population is set to continue its upward trend.

Consequently, with this continued growth, Dresden is expected to surpass 600,000 residents for the first time in 2038, reaching a projected population of 603,410 by 2040.
