Oberkirch (st) Große Ehre für das Gymnasium in Oberkirch
In a recent ceremony at the Oberdorfer Forum, the Hans-Furler-Gymnasium in Oberkirch received the prestigious Qualitätslabel FrancEducationLabel from the French government. This label is awarded to schools that demonstrate outstanding work in the field of French education. The school was recognized for its activities and offerings in the bilingual French program, which allows motivated and talented students to pursue both German and French high school diplomas.
To receive the label, the school had to undergo a rigorous evaluation process by multiple entities in France. This included submitting an extensive dossier that showcased their commitment to French language education, as well as participating in external language exams and organizing student exchanges with France.
The Importance of French Education
The importance of French education was emphasized during the ceremony by various speakers. Schulleiter Ingo Kruse, the school principal, highlighted the significance of the bilingual program in fostering intercultural education and promoting tolerance and understanding. He also pointed out that the school is named after Prof. Dr. Hans Furler, a great supporter of Franco-German friendship and a key figure in the development of a united Europe.
The deputy school principal, Volker Wacker, reflected on the school’s journey in establishing the bilingual program over the past 20 years. He expressed gratitude towards the dedicated teachers who have successfully nurtured students in French language education, including subject-specific courses taught in French. Wacker also celebrated the school’s tradition of achieving the AbiBac, the German-French double diploma, for the past ten years without interruption.
Recognition and Support
The ceremony was attended by important dignitaries, including Gaël de Maisonneuve, the French Consul General, and Joëlle Hecker, the Cooperation Attaché of the Institut Français Stuttgart. Consul General de Maisonneuve commended the school’s excellent work in promoting the French language and highlighted the importance of the language as a tool for global connections within the Francophonie.
“The school’s numerous partnerships with schools in France and the diverse encounters they facilitate contribute greatly to the development of young Europeans who are needed now and in the future,” said de Maisonneuve.
The Consul General also praised the support the school receives from the local community, including the political municipality, city administration, and city council. He expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by local businesses, especially Koehler Paper Group and the Furler family, who enable valuable German-French projects and exchanges through their foundations.
Celebrating with Music and Reflection
The ceremony was accompanied by musical performances by the school choir, the school orchestra, and a remarkable solo in the Musette style by accordionist and senior student Céline Müller. The atmosphere was jubilant, with a standing reception that allowed for many fruitful German-French conversations.
The recognition and accolades bestowed upon the Hans-Furler-Gymnasium reaffirm its commitment to providing exceptional French education and nurturing young individuals to become open-minded, European citizens.
