Here’s a refreshing snippet of Black Forest life ingeniously carved into a compact timepiece by award-winning clockmaker August Schwer. The front of the clock is a typical farmhouse chalet with its characteristic low sloping roof to the front and sides which was designed by foresters to keep out the swirling winds and snows of harsh Alpine winters. The varied hues of the rich panelwork on the house are quite remarkable since they greatly contribute to its overall beauty. On either side of the antique-style dial are the cutest of miniature windows and flower boxes.

The entire base of the clock is a miniature carving of the external surroundings of a traditional chalet complete with its familiar evergreens, foliage, mill wheel, covered well, stacked logs, wooden bench, and ladder. The star of the show is the innocent Bambi who shyly grazing while its red-breasted featured-friend inquisitively looks on from the safety of a huge tree.

As soon as the cuckoo announces the changing of the hour, colorful dancing figurines on the upper platform begin rotating to the merry strains of the music box while the mill wheel slowly revolves to the tune as well, providing animation to this very attractive forest scene.
