Rammersweier Genossenschaft Delights with Special Harvest
Offenburg, Germany –
The Rammersweier winery cooperative concluded its 2023 harvest on Thursday, 11th January, with the successful picking of a Souvignier gris Beerenauslese in a specially designated vineyard parcel overseen by WG executive Meinrad Hurst, as stated in a press release.
“Despite the frosty temperatures reaching minus seven degrees Celsius, unfortunately, the grapes did not freeze completely to be classified as Eiswein. Nevertheless, the winery officials are grateful for the opportunity to replenish their treasure trove with another dessert wine,”
Souvignier gris, a resistant grape variety developed by the state wine institute in Freiburg, was the chosen variety for this special harvest. The wine grapes were not completely frozen due to the milder weather, preventing them from being classified as Eiswein, a rare German ice wine. Despite this, the wine will still be labeled as part of the 2023 vintage.
Deliciously Sweet Souvignier Gris Wine
The Souvignier gris Beerenauslese harvested by Rammersweier represents a delectably sweet addition to their collection of wines. With approximately 135 degrees Oechsle, a measurement of grape ripeness, this special wine promises a delightful balance of flavors and aromas.
Beerenauslese wines are known for their high sugar content, resulting in rich and luscious flavors. The combination of Souvignier gris grapes and the dedication of the winery team has resulted in a wine that is sure to please the palates of wine enthusiasts.
The Importance of a Bountiful Harvest
For the Rammersweier winery cooperative, a successful harvest is not only a cause for celebration but also a vital part of their operations.
