According to recent data, an increasing number of individuals in Saxony, Germany, are choosing to forgo owning their own car and instead opting for carsharing services. One of the leading carsharing providers in the region, Teilauto, has reported a significant surge in users in 2023.

“The Carsharing provider Teilauto has seen a substantial increase in the number of users in 2023. Compared to the previous year, the number of registered drivers has risen by 16% to approximately 77,000,” the company, which operates in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia, announced on Tuesday.

The overall carsharing industry also experienced growth, with a 23% increase, as stated by the industry’s federal association. Teilauto’s fleet has expanded to 1,800 cars, an addition of about 200 vehicles, with 17% being electric cars, and the company aims to further increase the electric vehicle share.

Leipzig takes the lead as the largest location for Teilauto, boasting approximately 37,000 customers, closely followed by Dresden with 20,500 registered drivers. Erfurt and Jena in Thuringia emerged as cities with notable user bases, with 4,400 and 3,500 users respectively.
