Oberwiesenthal, a town in Germany, experienced a bustling weekend as it drew visitors from all over Saxony. Skiing, hiking, and sledding were among the activities enjoyed by enthusiastic excursionists against a backdrop of abundant snow, icy temperatures, and a strikingly blue sky.

“It was a fantastic weekend,” expressed René Lötzsch (51), the Chief Executive of the Fichtelberg Cable Car. “At least until Sunday noon, we had amazing weather. The conditions on the slopes, cross-country tracks, and sledding routes were exceptional. However, the wind picked up quite significantly.”

Starting from as early as 10 am, the parking lots in the skiing area were already full. Karsten Richter (37) and his family, who traveled from Mittweida, shared, “We woke up at 5 am this morning. We are just here to enjoy ourselves.”

The Fichtelberg mountain range attracted a large number of visitors, especially from Dresden, Leipzig, and Chemnitz. Long queues formed at the ticket counters for ski lifts and the cable car. Equipment rental shops and sledding providers were also kept busy throughout the weekend.

“There were hardly any vacant parking spots in the skiing area as early as Saturday morning,” reported René Lötzsch.

Located at 1215 meters, the highest peak in Saxony, the Fichtelberg boasted a snow depth of approximately 50 centimeters, while in the valley, the snow measured around 30 centimeters. Lötzsch affirmed, “Most of the snow on the slopes is machine-made, mixed with fresh snow.”

With the perfect blend of picturesque surroundings, well-prepared slopes, and thrilling outdoor activities, it is no wonder that Oberwiesenthal is becoming a favored destination for winter sports enthusiasts. The recent “super weekend” drew skiing enthusiasts from all corners of Saxony, seeking thrills and relaxation amid breathtaking natural beauty.

Visitors reveled in the exhilarating experience of skiing down the slopes, feeling the wind in their hair and the snow beneath their skis. The crisp, clear weather provided ideal conditions for outdoor adventures, while the well-maintained and meticulously groomed slopes ensured an exhilarating ride for ski lovers of all levels.

The popularity of the Fichtelberg area as a winter sports haven was evident from the significant turnout, with people flocking from urban centers like Dresden, Leipzig, and Chemnitz. The charming town of Oberwiesenthal embraced its role as a host, providing entertainment, equipment rentals, and warm hospitality to cater to the ski enthusiasts’ needs.

In addition to skiing, visitors engaged in other snow-related activities such as sledding and hiking, further enhancing their experience in this winter wonderland. The picturesque snow-covered landscape offered breathtaking views, attracting photographers who captured stunning images to memorialize their visit.
