A Historic Promise

During his visit, Chancellor Kohl made a historic promise to the landwirten (farmers) in the Oberlausitz region. He assured them that they would not be burdened with all the responsibilities and challenges alone. This promise was a significant gesture of support and encouragement, providing the farmers with the reassurance that their voices were heard and their concerns would be addressed.

A Memorable Visit

The Chancellor’s visit was organized in collaboration with local CDU politician and farmer, Gottfried Haschke. Kohl’s itinerary included various stops, such as Großhennersdorf, Radibor, and a breeding herd of the Agrargenossenschaft Eibau-Oberoderwitz. The highlight of the visit was a gathering in Schwarzadler, the headquarters of the Agrargenossenschaft Großwelka, where the farmers had the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with the Chancellor.

“The room was packed to the brim,” reported the Sächsische Zeitung at that time, indicating the high level of interest and enthusiasm among the farming community to connect with the Chancellor and discuss their concerns.

The visit of Chancellor Helmut Kohl to the farmers in Sachsen left a lasting impression on both the agricultural community and the wider public. It symbolized the government’s commitment to supporting and uplifting the farmers, recognizing their vital role in the region’s economy and society.
